Dr. Berglund gets to the root of the problem. He helped me in ways I never imagined. I used to feel tired regularly, Now I only feel tired occasionally.
Back in 1996 after I had my first son, I felt very tired. I figured it was due to recovery from child birth. I was tired after cleaning up a room. I was winded after going up the stairs. We then got a lady to clean the house one time a week. That helped. However, I found it took me still two hours at least to pick up the kids' toys and organize enough before the cleaning lady came. That wore me out.
By Aug. 1998, I went to my first week of teaching school for that school year and I found myself feeling light headed. I went to the doctor and found out my thyroid was low. I went on Synthroid. Since I have always been conscientious about not taking medicine, it bothered me very much. I was looking for alternatives to build up my thyroid, not replace it's function.
I had been going to a chiropractor but he died. After that I wondered who to go to. I also had a sister who died from leukemia in 1996. So I wondered if there was any way Anne could have stayed with us longer if we had known something about food that we did not know. I prayed about which chiropractor to go to. I had a sister who sold Sunrider Products. I had sold Amway products. I had a brother who had sold some liquid mineral waters. I had another sister who believed in Mannatech products. All seemed to be great products. So I said, "Lord, how do I know what is best for me?" Whenever I drove past Dr. Berglund's office, my inner voice seemed to say to me, "Call that office for an appointment." So I did. People ask me how I chose. It was a divine intervention. Someone many years ago told me that chiropractor was very good. I had no idea he did food and allergy testing through muscle testing, a branch of Applied Kinesiology.
Dr. Berglund has helped me feel better through a balancing of the mind, body, and spirit. He addressed my physical needs, made suggestions towards my mental health, and offered to pray for me as his patient. What ailed me?
My back and right shoulder was sore almost constantly. My feet hurt. My wrists seemed to get numb. My neck could not turn occasionally. I was often tired. My gums were very sensitive even though I used Sensodyne toothpaste. My left ear seemed to get plugged. After going to an ear doctor and he could find nothing wrong except weak hearing, I still could not hear well. Sometimes, my stomach would hurt after one of my favorite meals. Also, I was forgetting information. That scared me.
Gradually, Dr. Berglund helped me get better. I got adjustments. He gave me supplements. He had books available to read. I learned how to do some muscle testing at home to help myself and my family. He fitted me for orthopedic insoles for my shoes to stabilize my hips. He recommended which foods to avoid. I worked hard to find alternatives to white sugar and white flour (processed from wheat) and milk. Now I regularly use spelt flour, both white and regular. I use the more wholesome sugars: molasses, Turbinado sugar, sugar cane, and Sucanat sugar. My milk substitute was goat milk for a while. Now I regularly make almond milk.
I used to go to a chiropractor 2 or 3 times a week because I always hurt. Now I go once every two months or when I feel I need to go.
Due to information I learned through reading, I have changed my eating habits. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day with no soda or caffeine. Sometimes I'll drink green tea. I eat lots more greens, fresh fruits, and vegetables than I had in the past. I read every label in the stores to avoid buying foods with high fructose corn syrup, hydrolyzed proteins, MSG, Red 40 and most preservatives. My goal is to buy organic though I am not 100% successful. I buy breads with whole grains (mostly Natural Ovens brand though I am unable to eat the low carb bread). Since I learned to do muscle testing on my boys, they help me buy that which is good for our family. If they don't test fine, I won't buy the product. Through muscle testing, each person can know what is best for them. No person's body tests exactly the same.
If I don't take my supplements, my aches and pain do come back. I listen to my body. If my gums are sore, I realize I must have had too much sugar. If my feet are sore, I know I must need more thyroid supplement or calcium. If I am tired, I get my body tested to see if I need my supplements intake adjusted. To me this is a lot easier than going to get my blood tested every month. I still do have a blood test every so often.
I feel great compared to how I felt in 1996. Back then I had lost my sister to leukemia. The way I was feeling, I was wondering if that was my destination also. I had been so tired and aching. I'd fall asleep sitting at the table listening to stories even when company was around. Now I am able to stay up at night. I am not so tired. I feel great. My memory is much better. My feet are not aching, my wrists are not numb. I credit this to my chiropractor's guidance and his answering questions patiently. He cared about my whole person, not just about his pocket book. He had a quote on the board that said, "The body can heal itself." He just gave me the tools to help my body heal.
I no longer need a nap each day. I have much more energy to work at school and at home. With a healthy body, I believe the Lord can use me better than when I was sick and I am grateful. I can better be that temple of the Holy Spirit.
My Sons' StoriesWhen my first son was young, he had a couple of ear infections. When he was three and riding in the car with me, he was wiggly. He was so wiggly I had to stop the car. He just could not sit still. He also developed eczema on his legs. His regular doctor did give him a steroid cream which did help. I just did not know the cause of the eczema. After going to Dr. Berglund for a while, he assured me he could help my son address those problems. Dr. Berglund tested my son for food allergies/senstitivities. We found him to have a yeast infection. I learned the yeast grows when fed sugars and related substances. To get rid of the problem, Ron was to avoid high fructose corn syrup products, white flour (processed from wheat), vinegar products, and milk. What could he eat? The first couple of weeks, it was corn products and meat and potato products. Not much variety. It's a good thing that diet didn't last forever. Now, to keep that problem in check, my son takes a homeopathic anti-fungal substance and Lacto-Tri Blend supplement to add good bacteria to the intestines. The results are less itching from the eczema and less wiggling and better brain choices. When my son does eat too much of what he should not eat, he does get wiggly and itchy and irritable. Recently, he told me his hands feel heavy when playing the piano if the yeast growth is too much. As an 11-year-old, it is very difficult to manage the food options and the self-control to say no. That is the greatest difficulty. If he can discover the body clues that help him eat right, then I hope he won't need me to guide him any more.
My second son had some problems I wanted addressed. He seemed to be an angry child. He also got tired easy. He'd sleep almost every day after school. Also, he'd wake up early. Even as a baby, he rarely slept the whole night through. One more thing, he was bruised very easily. I read some articles about [aggression] with red 40 and preservatives. Well, the second son was found to have a yeast growth, but different than my first son. This child reacted to Red 40 and sugars in a mean way. Also, he had bumps on his arms and face that he had when he was a baby. His regular doctor thought nothing of the bumps. This child had to go to the bathroom often. Also, my son was developing a pigment discoloration on his neck. By doing the food test on my second son, Dr. Berglund found he seemed to hold copper in his body. His body was unable to get rid of the copper by itself. A zinc supplement seems to have been the answer. The amount of zinc given varied with my son's muscle testing needs until we got rid of the copper. When the copper was gotten to a manageable amount, the zinc amount per day became a more standard measurable account.
Now, my second son is more able to manage his temper. He sleeps through the entire night. The bumps on his arms and face are clues he needs more zinc. He seems to need to go to the bathroom more often only when he eats yeast growth types of foods. The pigment change on his neck has grown only in proportion to his body size changes. He doesn't need to sleep as soon as he is home from school. This child seems to respect that he needs to avoid Red 40 and certain foods. As a mom it is difficult to see the children choose foods that I know are detrimental to their well-being. However, I do believe it is my job to teach them what is best for them according to the best knowledge I have myself. Due to Dr. Berglund's inspiration, I have been able to learn more and guide my family in a most healthful way. I believe I was lead to Dr. Berglund through my prayers. I am grateful to him and to the good Lord for answering my prayers.
